Sometimes its a struggle to get children to move in different directions, to freely move in and out of each other pathways without obstruction , or following each other around . I use the Airport scenario as a Movement pathway Development tool. This is also a fun lesson to use before a break for holidays !
Set the scene.
You are at the airport boarding gate/lounge. The airport is a hub of activity and emotions . Discuss the movement actions of the various people you would find at an airport.
Relaxed , casual , mooching around, taking their time . Stoping to look at screens etc.
Concentrating Moving quickly , Using the phone , taping on a keypad Accurate in their movements . Knowing precisely their destination point.
Directing and pointing , showing passengers the way . Organizing people Checking or searching people .
Other actions .
Looking at screens
Running towards a destination (late for boarding )
Greetings and Farewells Waving Hugging ,Kissing Shaking hangs Running towards each other
Checking pockets and bags
Pulling , pushing Carrying suitcases
People in ques
People weaving in and out of each others pathways
Sitting on chairs
Sleeping on chairs.
Fun tool to create even more creativity !
At the airport there are moving walkways , like an escalator but its moves forward rather than up or down . Basically your body stands still ,yet you move along ! I love these walkways .I always pretend to fall down or go backwards .
In a small area cone of the “Moving Floor ” if a child goes through this area they have to “do an action “! Run, Jump Moonwalk Walk on hands , Pretend to walk in slow motion , Pop up and down !! It doesn’t matter what the movements are the more creative the better , This area is purely a Freestyle area !
