This post /lesson idea has been inspired by 18month old Ted ! Who has just become the proud owner of his first pair of trainers !. When he first had them placed on his feet he was unsure of how to stand !! He took cautious steps , I can only presume that the new trainers are heavier and more cumbersome than the shoes he has been wearing .
After the first few tentative steps , he now stomps and clumps about . And it seems that when wearing his trainers he is only able to run around!.
This has inspired me to think about different shoes and how they make us move. How we can use the shoe movements to encourage our little Dancers ,and their little legs ! to discover different movement styles? .
Wellies . Wellies make us jump in puddles and splash and splodge in mud. Wellies makes us pick and lift our feet up. We have to pull our boots on , stretching our arms and legs out .
Flip Flops. Flip flops make a funny sound when we walk ! You cant run in Flip flops , you can only Flip and Flop.
High Heels Stilettos. High heels make you wobble ! , you have to balance carefully, you have to walk slow and take small steps.
Trainers. Make you run fast and dart between people and objects. Trainers make you nippy !
Slippers Are comfortable and make you feel sleepy, you take big slow comfy steps when your wearing your comfy slippers.
School Shoes Are smart and tidy . School shoes are busy and on a mission ,school shoes have a important job to take you from one place to another, as quickly and as accurately as possible .
Allow your students to suggest other footwear , and create movement patterns to match .
I hope you enjoy your new shoes !! www.thedancelady.com
